Neuralink has achieved a monumental feat by allowing a quadriplegic patient to regain control of a device using their brain. The patient, Nolan Harbaugh, demonstrated telepathy in controlling a computer and playing video games just by thinking. This breakthrough technology has the potential to change the world and improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.
Tennessee has become the first state to pass legislation protecting musicians from unauthorized AI impersonation. The Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security Act, or ELVIS Act, prohibits the use of AI to mimic an artist's voice without permission. The law will take effect on July 1 and includes AI-specific protections. This move is seen as a significant step in addressing the impact of AI on the music industry and protecting artists' rights.
OpenAI's GPT Store, the marketplace for custom chatbots powered by OpenAI's generative AI models, is facing issues with spam and copyright infringement. The store, which has grown rapidly, contains GPTs that generate art in the style of popular franchises without authorization and promote academic dishonesty by claiming to bypass AI content detectors. Impersonation of people and organizations is also prevalent. These problems highlight the need for better moderation and adherence to OpenAI's policies to maintain the quality and integrity of the GPT Store.

One Prompt
This week, we're taking it back to basics. I'm about to break down the core principles of prompt engineering for you, just like I would if we were chatting over coffee. No fluff, just straight talk on how to get the best out of those brainy AI models, like GPT-4. Ready? Let’s dive in.
Be Crystal Clear: Imagine you're giving directions to someone who’s never been in your neighborhood. You wouldn’t just say, ‘Head over here.’ You’d be specific, right? Same goes for AI. Need something short? Say so. Looking for expert chatter? Mention it. It’s all about making your needs clear to avoid any guesswork.
Bring Your Own Info: Think of it like giving the AI a cheat sheet before an exam. If you’re asking about something super specific or niche, don’t just throw the question out there and hope for the best. Give it a leg up by providing a chunk of text or a few key details on the topic. It’s like saying, “Here’s what you need to know,” so it can hit the ground running with the right context. This approach can dramatically cut down on the wild guesses and steer the conversation in the direction you want.
Keep It Simple, Silly: Got a big, complex task? Break it down into smaller bites. It’s easier to tackle and less likely to confuse both you and the AI.
Patience Is Key: Ever rushed a job and had to redo it? The AI feels you. If it’s got a complex question, letting it ‘think’ step by step can really pay off in accuracy.
Use the Right Tools: Sometimes, AI needs a little help from its friends, like other software tools, for the heavy lifting in knowledge searches or math problems. Don’t hesitate to pair it up with what it needs.
Test, Test, Test: You know how sometimes what works in theory flops in practice? To avoid that, try your changes on a bunch of examples to make sure they actually improve things across the board.
There you have it – prompt engineering stripped down to the essentials. 🚀 Experiment, tweak, and don’t forget to have a bit of fun with it (I know I do 😄).
One Tool:
Let's talk about my secret weapon for writing: the Hemingway Editor. It's like having a wise old editor sitting right next to you, but without the coffee breath 🤣.
Picture this: you've written something, and you're not sure if it's as clear or maybe too complicated. Hemingway to the rescue!
How to use it? Just paste your text into the app, and boom - it gets to work. It'll highlight sentences that are hard to read, point out where you're being a bit too passive (we all do it), and even suggest simpler words where you've maybe gone a bit dictionary.
It gives your writing a readability grade. It's kind of like school, but instead of dreading a low grade, you're aiming for one. Lower grades mean your writing is easy to read, which is great because you want as many people as possible to get what you're saying, right?
Plus, Hemingway doesn't just stop at making your writing simpler. It's got your back when you want to tweak the tone, adjust the length, or even up the formality for those times you need to sound extra professional. It's all about giving you control over how your message comes across.
So, next time you're sitting there, staring at your screen, wondering if there's a better way to say what you mean, remember Hemingway is just a paste away from turning those complex thoughts into clear, engaging content.
